1 Genius Way to Inspire EVERY Outfit!

Do you feel stuck in a colour style rut?

Often when we think about what to wear, as we look through our wardrobes, we initially base an outfit choice on the colour we feel like wearing. For example, many of us grab a black item as it’s safe, classic and it pretty much goes with everything.

But the truth is; wearing colour (and even more so, wearing several colours together) can make us look more youthful, energetic and stylish.

Colour Can Boost Our Confidence!

When we wear colour we’re also more likely to get complimentary ‘ooohs’ and ‘aaaah’s’ from friends and family, as they express their delight at seeing us wear colour and more so, a colour palette that they never even thought of wearing together before! This in turn boosts our confidence.
Quite simply, wearing colours can make us not only look good, but feel good too!

Mother Nature, the Queen of Style Inspiration…

How It Works…

Allow me to provide you with the evidence of just how taking inspiration from Mother Nature’s colour combining can totally work for your future outfits:

Some time ago my friends; Kat, Tammie and I took a walk outside and took photographs of colour combos that Mother Nature had created. We then used these photographs as inspiration for putting together the same colour combinations with our own outfits!

Take a look….

A Daisy

I put a longer white shirt under my yellow jumper to tone the yellow down. My indigo jeans added a third colour to my look to help make this colour combo totally wearable; you could also go with greens or browns to give it a different edge. High five to you little daisy!

A Budding Flower

Tammie loved the tones in this flower bud and using it as inspiration, put together her outfit with three tones which are similar to all the different tones in the flower bud! Genius! Nature can definitely teach us a thing or two about wearing colour together!

A Red Tulip

A beautiful red tulip was all my friend Kat needed to ramp up her colour confidence. Kat found this amazing green blazer in a charity shop, which she anchored down by wearing a cream blouse to add a touch of softness and harmony. Take a look at Kat’s nails and lips – she’s cleverly used a pop of bright ‘tulip red’ in her cosmetics to accessorise the blazer and bring the whole look together! Genius!

How You to Can Do This Too…

Next time you pass a really pretty colour combination, fresh from Mother Nature, ’snap’ it with your camera phone and start to create your own visual library of beautiful colour combinations to inspire your outfits!
One tip to remember with plants: if it grows from a brown trunk or a green stalk, the colours found in the flowers and leaves can always be blended together when selecting an outfit. For example, Hibiscus, Pansies, Frangipani, Primroses and Tulip flowers all have vivid bursts of colour, sometimes there’s more than one shade within the petals.
Rediscover the colours of the ocean in your outfits, try a teal coloured vest under a blue shirt and sand coloured jeans, or aqua and coral clashes!
Don’t forget to take inspiration from colours in the sky too! Sunsets and Sunrises produce some beautiful tones!

A Final Word…

If you don’t currently own many bright colours, or you’re still not feeling comfortable enough to step out in something bright, why not try a colourful accessory first, to get used to the idea?
