Have you been looking in your mirror wondering if a fringe will work for you? Thoughts running wild, ‘will it suit me?’
If you have, read on, I hope my experiences will help you decide…
Having a fringe definitely does take more time to style (hello sticky-up -fringe every morning!) you need to be able to spare an extra five mins in your morning routine to style it daily. Believe me; fringes never look cute after a night resting on your pillow…this is my daily bug-bear with my fringe.
Most fringes need monthly trims – so be prepared for this, some hairdressers will trim your fringe for free in between cuts. But. it’s still the time spent getting to the hairdressers and if you have little people (children) to look after this isn’t always so easy to arrange.
There have been many times when my fringe has grown too much, and I can’t find the time get to the hairdressers so I’ve taken action and cut my own fringe. Many times I have done this (I don’t seem to learn!), and I’ve ended up giving myself the kind of fringe that would look great on a five-year-old but not so good on me I head into my 40’s! So, go to a professional if you can to avoid my past mistakes.
I am still experimenting with the best fringe for me, but over time I have gained these insights from my experimenting: If you have a longer face shape, avoid a blunt cut for a more softly shaped style. For an angular jawline try a side sweep fringe. For a more rounded face try a straight-edged heavy fringe with longer side pieces that graze your cheekbones, to create the illusion of higher cheekbones!
I have fine hair, and I can happily tell you that fringes can help make hair look a little thicker. Getting a fringe cut-in can create instant volume—simply because the front section of hair appears thicker. Try starting your fringe a little back from your forehead and using face-framing layers to add depth.
For thick, even coarse or wavy hair, opt for a longer fringe that can easily be pushed to the side and having a little movement to hair actually works with the finish.
…well seeing them at least! Fringes – help conceal forehead lines and wrinkles, and I have often been grateful for them hiding a zit or two on my forehead too! High five, my faithful fringe!
Most people get oily foreheads throughout the day. Be prepared for that oil to get mopped up by your fringe which in turn makes a fringe look greasy. Quickly! I carry in my bag a mini can of dry shampoo and spray a little onto my fringe before I leave the house. Plus, dry shampoo can give a flat fringe a little lift and volume too! Bonus!
For me, I like the flexibility that a fringe gives me and how I can change my look. This is how I like to style mine…
Whatever you decide, embrace your decision and rock it with confidence! For example, I like to wear a vivid lipstick with mine to give my fringe more of a statement.
When I wanted to grow my short hair out Biotin supplements {give them a google} along with eating a handful of almonds each day really helped speed up the growing rate! Both make hair grow stronger, thicker and faster. BUT, only if you take them daily and you usually only see results after three months. BUT, this works.
I hope I’ve helped you with your ‘to fringe or… not to fringe’ question?
