When was the last time you wore a skirt? I HONESTLY can’t remember the last time I did (until now)!
If, like me, it was a while ago – you’ll be happy to know that skirts are not only having a style moment right now, BUT they can also help us look and feel more feminine by celebrating our curves!
Finding the right skirt – and NAMING that skirt – can sometimes be tricky business! But I’m hoping I can inspire you to wear more skirts and even by wearing your existing skirts in a whole new way.
I’ll take you through each style and show you ways YOU could style it!
A-line skirts vary in length, but the common factor is that they are all slightly flared. Imagine the letter ‘A’ as a skirt and that’s the shape!
A wardrobe staple because they suit ALL body shapes – cleverly disguising any tummy or hip problem areas!
TOP STYLE TIP: Wear a slightly fitted top to highlight your waist and to give it a narrower look.
This is a full skirt that looks like the shape of a circle when flat and can be of various lengths.
The circle skirt is great news for EVERYONE – and perfect if you’ve got gorgeously curvy hips!
TOP STYLE TIP: wear with a close fitting top to show off your waist and add kitsch 1950’s accessories.
The mini skirts look super cool when dressed down in a more relaxed vibe – adding sophistication and werability.
Give the mini skirt a sophisticated twist by teaming with chic flats in the summer and thick tights in the winter.
TOP STYLE TIP: Add a cross-body bag to give you look a preppy vibe!
The pleated skirt has had a real comeback recently and it’s easy to see why!
They are like an A-line skirt but with pretty pleats and are SUPER versatile, found in many different lengths that suits EVERYONE!
TOP STYLE TIP: Why not wear the same colour top and pleated skirt and ROCK with a pair of bright statement shoes!
This skirt is made up of layers of fabric to give an illusion of a curvier figure so it’s GREAT for when you want to show off those feminine curves…or EVEN create some more!
TOP STYLE TIP: Team your ruffled skirt with more masculine or structured tops for the PERFECT contrast!
The pencil skirt is ideal for EVERYONE wishing to look chic and sexy – to lengthen the look of your legs just add some heels!
My favourite style of pencil- skirt is one that finishes just below the knee. This slightly longer length of pencil skirt makes a legs look sleeker and sexier!
TOP STYLE TIP: Go BIG on the clutch and delicate on the shoes – for a high fashion look!
Everyone can enjoy the midi skirt – the trick is to lengthen the look of your legs with wedges or flats in the same colour as your skin, or tights to help give some lift!
This skirt looks best with a heel, so try with some lace-up boots or ankle boots! You can also really work a midi by wearing a bold colour or pattern to make a statement!
TOP STYLE TIP: Pointed toe shoes and kitten heels work best for this type of skirt.
Wrap skirts is a long piece of fabric that wraps delicately around the body – can be elegant or bohemian, depending on your favourite style!
The wrap skirt can add instant sex appeal as it shoes just a touch of leg as you move and walk in the skirt.
TOP STYLE TIP: For a more relaxed daytime look, add some fashion trainers to rock that casual chic vibe.
Very similar in shape to the pencil skirt but usually made of stretchier fabric reaching just below the knees – super flattering on ALL legs!
TOP STYLE TIP: For a flattering alternative, try part-tucking your top into your tube skirt to show off just a hint of a waist!
Maxi skirts suit EVERYONE – though if you’re short/petite wear with a wedge or visit your local dry-cleaners to hem the skirt shorter.
Define your waist with this style – a belt, tucking in, or tying up your shirt!
TOP STYLE TIP: Trainers are really having a fashion moment and can look perfect teamed with a long flowy maxi!
There you have it friends – ALL you ever wanted to know about skirt shapes!!
I hope you’ll love the feminine feel a skirt gives YOU and feel inspired to hit the shops to try some different styles!
So go on, get your skirt on – and ROCK that outfit, while celebrating being fabulous YOU!
