Is it just me or when you wear black, do you feel like you’re cheating in some way?
Sometimes, even though I know I look better in colour, black seems to be my go-to shade on certain days. On those days when I don’t want to have to think about what I’m wearing BLACK just seems to save the day every time.
BLACK really is hard to get wrong. Well, it was the chosen uniform of fashion guru Number.1 – Coco Chanel!
But there are some little tricks that as a stylist I use to help transform an all black outfit into something a little more interesting and stylish – and I can’t wait to share these with YOU!
It’s all in the MIX!!
If you want to take your all black outfit up a notch in the style stakes, then MIXING your textures is a quick and easy shortcut to get there. This needn’t be fussy or complicated, simply think about making small tweaks such as wearing lace or patterned black hosiery and you’ll be on the right track! Or why not add a black silk shirt under your much loved black biker jacket? Instantly it adds a little ‘je n’ais sais quoi’!
By mixing textures when you wear all black, you’ll create a much more chic and eclectic appearance.
Make your accessories the STAR of the show!
Because black acts as a blank canvas, you can use it to YOUR advantage to frame and highlight your most treasured accessories.
You’d be amazed at just how ‘WOW‘ your necklaces look when set against black! They’ll look even more spectacular and eye catching – so use your black outfit to make your accessories the focus. There’s a reason why jewellers display their finest jewellery on black fabric – it helps show off the item TO the MAX ! Don’t hold back, be bold and have fun accessorising your gorgeous self!
Let your LIPS do the talking!
If you don’t know this already, then I LOVE to add a bright pop of colour to my lips, especially when wearing an all black outfit. This adds an extra dimension to wearing black and adds a sense of fun to the look!
BEST of all, a bold lip is the easiest and quickest way to complete a makeup look because the rest of the makeup needs to be minimal…great on days when you’re in a hurry!

Bring your nails in on the act!
By painting your nails in a statement colour, such as a matt gold or pillar box red, it will give your outfit a more polished look! PLUS, it’s a bargain to pick up a new bold shade you may not usually wear – so you get lots of bang for your buck! Take it one style step further by matching your shoes with your nails! Now we’re talking!
Give my style tips a go and see how you can turn UP the volume on black!
