Find it Hard to Wake Up? These Tricks Will REALLY Help…

Do you frequently tell yourself, “I’m just not a morning person”?
My favourite parts of the day are early mornings and late at night (I get my best ideas at both these times). But, I have to be honest, it’s taken me years to love an early start! I remember when I was 18 sleeping in until 11am and my mum telling me “you’ve wasted half the day”….I just didn’t get it! Now, I do.
Here’s What Has Helped Me:
{Side note: I totally understand this isn’t going to work for everybody. You may work shift patterns, or have children who keep you awake, or you may have health issues and I completely empathise with you all. But hey, if one of these tips work for you then I’m happy!}
Change of Attitude…

- I’ve tried hard to change my mental attitude to the thought of early mornings so that I actually welcome getting up at 6:30am.
- Before, I used to set my alarm for this time and be filled with dread. Now, I think of the the extra time I have in the mornings as my time to myself. It’s the only time in the day that I don’t have texts, emails and general demands from others on my time. It’s just me pottering around the house before I have to get ready for work and it feels good. Could this change in attitude work for you too?
1. Start Gradually Waking up Early…

- When I first wanted to get up earlier I set my alarm to go off 5 minutes earlier every day, so by the end of 5 days I was getting woken 20 minutes earlier. It wasn’t such a shock to my system and felt easier.
- I found a gradual increase worked best for me and I now get up at 6:30am, rather that 6:50am. The extra 20 minutes has taken the stress out of my morning routine. I’m more happier and relaxed when I start work now and I feel so much more ready to take on the day. It’s a little change that will have a big impact on your day.
2. Don’t Fully Close Your Blinds…
- To help my body stir as naturally as possible, I adjust my bedroom blind, so that a slice of daylight will start to creep into my room as soon as it becomes light outside; this little light very gradually prepares the body to wake up slowly as the sun rises without you even noticing. Clever eh?! When the alarm does go off it’s not such a shock, since your internal body clock is already prepped. This really works!
3. Prepare Your Clothes {& Boost Your Confidence!}…

- Okay, so this is one that I really want to improve on (as I sometimes forget to do this), but when I do prepare my outfit the night before it really helps me not feel stressed about rushing to find clothes to wear.
- I tend to spend a little more time in the evenings putting together my outfit, which ultimately makes me feel better throughout my day, as I feel happier in what I’m wearing.
- When I don’t plan, I tend to just grab the same old outfits and this starts to make me feel stuck in a style-rut over time.
- Planning your outfit the night before will encourage you to try a new look and possibly add an extra special touch to your look {such as a necklace}. You’ll enjoy what you wear much more and this in turn, will help boost your confidence every day. Simple as that.
4. Place Your Alarm Out of Arm’s Reach

- Again, I’m not perfect at this but, I force myself out of bed by positioning my alarm clock so that I have to get out of my bed to turn it off. I’m less likely to hit the ‘snooze’ button since I’ve already risen. Try it and see for yourself, this trick really works!
I hope my ‘wakey, wakey’ tricks will help you feel like you’re seizing your day! Let me know how you get on? I’m on Facebook daily if you want to ping me a message.
Enjoy!
